"Bullying is not OK" Period !

“Bullying is not OK.  Period.”

Jim C Hines

Bullying is one of the negative social behaviors I address in my poetry.

In my book, The Moon of Compassion, I address the bullying of a woman by a man, in a poem called, “The Bully and the Butterfly”.

Of course, men can also be victims of bullying, and unfortunately, this antisocial and unacceptable behavior happens all too frequently between children too.

But children learn from observation, from how they are treated, and from peers or people that they fear.

The Bully and the Butterfly is a description of an oppressive male through the eyes of a woman, who later douses her role as victim, with self-affirming statements of intention to nurture herself.

My intent is to stimulate change of thought in both the perpetrator, and the victim of abuse.

The illustrations in my book are a combination of open clip art, and my own photographs or drawings, layered and textured to add visual emphasis, and perspective.

Mirror Mirror on the wall

In response to one of my poems, "Mirror Mirror", I received a wonderful review from Vita Pascone, from San Francisco.
I was SO appreciative of her validating feedback, that I would like to quote her here.

"
So powerful!! Such a chillingly honest and lyrically genius reflection of the ego's power to seek validation in physical appearance.
This is especially important for women to acknowledge: the role of perceived physical beauty in determining self worth and value in our appearance-driven culture.
We are each so much more than the mirror reflects, and your poem brings to life a dimension that often gets overlooked as women seek to enhance and conceal physical imperfections while neglecting our core being."
Vita Pascone MA

My poem, Mirror Mirror is one of the more introspective works in my book.
It was inspired by a conversation I had with a young friend, who was having issues about being bullied in public for her appearance.
Upon reflection of her feelings, and my own experiences when I was younger, and more vulnerable, I felt it was an important concept to explore in poetry form.
My book also has audio files, which enable the reader to listen to my own renditions, as well as to read for themselves.

I hope that if you read this, you might be inspired to check out my book, The Moon of Compassion , on iTunes.
it is priced at $4.99 to fit most budgets.

The time has come for you to rise
Wipe your tears and dry your eyes
Emerging into different skies
Shed the chains of long tradition
feed your soul and intuition
Recognize your sisters all
Embrace the dawn of Woman's call

If Women are to find their Voice

How to feel inspired each day

is quite a challenge, I must say

However clever it may seem

to think of something fresh and clean

each day is quite a daunting task

Yet of my readers, all I ask

is that you click and read, enjoy

to make it worthwhile, my employ

Today I point you to my book

I'm hoping that you take a look

Consider downloading the file

or take a peek at the free trial

The subject matter is concerning

As human beings, we are still learning

There's commentary on corruption

on Terrorism, and disruption

on insecurity and unfairness

with hopes to raise Mankind's awareness

But one thing's certain, it's our choice

if Women are to find their VOICE!

                                             What will your Verse be?

As I reflect on the tragic, sudden departure of Robin Williams, and mourn the passing of a great comedian, and beloved celebrity, I wanted to quote one of his most inspirational lines from The Dead Poets Society, ( written by John Keating ) :

"That you are here, that life exists, and identity;  that the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be ?"

Robin Williams composed many verses, many humanistic verses, both in his film roles, in his life, and in his example towards others.

But the message of the quote is, " What will your verse be? "

How can you make a difference in this world? No matter how small, how seemingly insignificant.

Have you found your voice? What does your voice say?

It is my hope that Women, in particular, will find their own voice, a greater voice, that will grow until we bring about significant changes. Changes in the household, the community, a country, and eventually the world...........
 One verse at a time.

Verses for a Voice!

Thank you Robin, for reminding me of this message.

I extend my most humble condolences to your family and friends.

Couldn't sleep last night. Weight of the world on my mind.. Created this piece of Peace Art from a photograph that I took in Plymouth, England. One of the few standing classical style buildings after the WW2 blitzing of Plymouth.
I layered the picture using different techniques, and then used another one of my photographs, a Dandelion head, to create evocative interest. I then used Distressed FX to create an overall coherence and texture.
The quote is Mahatma Gandhi.. . My hope is the Dandelion seeds will be caught in the wind, and drift worldwide. carrying his words.

It has been 100 years since World War 1

We shall remember all who lost their lives
with respect and grace.

Yet, we still wage war against eachother.

As poppies lift heads to the sun
and flowers sway in distant fields
we should reflect on the age old song
"Where have all the flowers gone?"

Long time passing as we may
                                            This is our Remembrance day
Yet somehow we do never learn
                                      When will we ever learn?
