I shake my head, and wonder why

I close my eyes, begin to cry

I despair, with frustrated sigh

Man’s inhumanity to man

This week there have been three events

of note, that somehow represent

and illustrate how Man’s descent

is accelerating.

The bigotry of ISIS

has reached a worldwide crisis

has become a sickening Phthisis..

A systemic world disease

Palmyra, Mosul, Jonah’s tomb,

Nimrud, Khorsabad pierce my womb

as artifacts are now but fumes..

a celestial Constellation

Khaled Assad, Syrian scholar

beheaded for his learned collar

after a month of tortured squalor

A Martyr for Palmyra

And then, a cruel abomination

Refugees of Syrian nation

found  in ghastly revelation

Seventy one in suffocation

They did not reach their destination

Despite their brave determination

Yet those who do, face discrimination

The harrowing truth be told

They flee not just for better life

They flee from death, from Isis’s knife

from accusations of apostasy..

“Takfiri! ,the cry of “Heresy!”

From religious bigotry

Can we not welcome refugees?

Instead of insensibility

accusing them of villainy

Put down our prejudicial cries

and rescue them from their demise

We, who sit in “Comfort -World”

as we watch the news unfold

with atrocities untold

What can we do to change things?

The third cold blooded week’s event

A premeditated sentiment

Too unexpected to prevent

The perpetrator opened fire

The scene became a funeral pyre

The murder of two reporters

Two young people, in their prime

Too young to die of heinous crime

Victims of these violent times

Heart-felt condolences

I cannot sanely understand

how anyone in this great land

can open fire on fellow man

and serve a higher purpose

I search for answers high and low

as I ponder these sad Tableaux

I wonder if we’ll ever grow

It leaves me cold and wordless.

Words both sad and beautiful.
The photos were a lovely and apt accompaniment.
