We had a brutal storm, and now, in the aftermath, there is peace.
The birds are chirping, and as the sun goes down behind the fallen trees, a strange stillness is in the air.
I am charging my cell phone in the car, and using the last juice in my ipad to write while I can do nothing else.
When communications are down, it's like stepping back in time, when we were very young, and there was no internet. We had a phone with a party line, and no TV until I was 5. We relied on the radio and newspapers to bring in the news. Even our enemies in war time, had to essentially rely on the same technology, and communication was slow.
Which has me thinking.
As crazy as he was, the Uni-bomber was right about one thing... The internet and technology can be used for evil. Without technology and cell phone communication, terrorists would be less well organized. One hit on a power grid, and whole cities could, and have be brought to a stand still.
My thoughts wander even further, as I now sit in the dark with the animals at my feet, listening to the drone of my engine, as I use petrol to charge my phone.
As weaponry becomes more and more sophisticated and deadly, and while we, and other countries persist in participating in weapons trading, then terrorists will also become more and more sophisticated and lethal. Their accumulation of deadly weapons is a direct result of arms trading somewhere in the world. (Reflections on what Charlie Wilson did..)
So what was it that Eisenhower said? "The Military Congressional Industrial Complex comprises the policy and monetary relationships which exist between legislators, national armed forces, and the arms industry that supports them.".....( Or something like that...)
Of course, its all about money.
Money drives the weapons trade.
Greed for power drives conflict.
Greed for money and power drives the proliferation of war
Ah! The internet is back up!
Need to post this now, before I loose my power again......( no pun intended;)
